12 February 1961 -- Brother Louis A. Vidunas dies

Anne's brother Louis Vidunas died
(Wiles-Barre Times Leader, The Evening News,
 Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, 1961)

"Louis A. Vidunas, 15 Cherry Street, Kingston, a retired mine worker, died last night at 10:50 in the Wyoming Valley Hospital, where he was admitted earlier in the day for medical treatment ... He also leaves a brother, John and two sisters, Mrs. Stella Lowman, Kingston, and Mrs. George Beretsky, Edwardsville" (Wiles-Barre Times Leader, The Evening News, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, 1961)

What we get from this is that Anne Vidunas Beretsky was living in Edwardsville at this time.

6 April 1963 -- Husband George Beretsky dies

Anne Vidunas Beretsky, wife of George Beretsky

George was a mechanic, living with his family at 41 Jackson Street, Edwardsville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.  His wife, is listed as Mrs Anna Beretsky, his father as Michael Beretsky (no mother listed).  Anna was the informant.  This was quite a tragedy, as George was in a field next to his house, working on a vehicle lifted up on jacks.  The front end slipped off the jacks.  He suffered internal injuries, and multiple fractures of the chest.  It was ruled an accident with no autopsy needed.  Apparently, he was working on the car on his time off, because it says the accident occurred "not while at work."   He was buried on 9 April 1963, at Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

One thing I noticed about this document is the ink.  It looks like it was written with a fountain pen of the time, with the uneven strokes.

 Wilkes-Barre Record,

Here we find a bit more information.  He told his wife he was going to work on the car.  George's brother Michael found him, called emergency services.  They provided oxygen and artificial respirations for about 45 minutes.  Remember, there was no CPR as we know it in 2019, but it probably would not have helped in this case.  He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.

An interesting note:  This man is George Beretsky born 1903.  There are several newspaper accounts of George Beretsky Jr who was in the US navy in WWII, who'd been in an accident severing both his legs.  He was 22 years old, making his date of birth 1925 or so.  They held fund raisers to get him into a business of some sorts.  Could this be Anne's son?  If you know that information, or would like the newspaper clippings, (from newspapers.com) give me a hollar using the contact form on the right.
